Why Is ₹45 Crore Being Demanded?
According to multiple reports, Excel Entertainment claims it suffered substantial financial losses after Ranveer withdrew from the project.
Don 3 wasn’t merely an idea on paper.
Preparations had reportedly already begun.
Ranveer had undergone action and stunt preparation in late 2025, while the production side had reportedly spent money on areas including overseas locations, crew arrangements, training, costumes, travel, sets and other pre-production work.
Ranveer then reportedly communicated his decision to leave the project before filming began.
Excel Entertainment subsequently sought approximately ₹45 crore in damages, according to current reports.
But that number needs an important clarification:
₹45 crore is a reported claim — not a court judgment.
Ranveer’s side disputes it.
Ranveer’s Team Challenges IMPPA
This is where the controversy becomes much more serious.
The dispute reached the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association.
But Ranveer’s legal team has reportedly questioned whether IMPPA has the jurisdiction to decide the issue.
Reports say his side argues that there was no final formal agreement with Excel Entertainment and that the parties instead had a Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU.
Ranveer’s camp has also reportedly submitted a formal defence challenging the ₹45-crore demand.
Its position is essentially:
IMPPA should not adjudicate this dispute.
And if Excel Entertainment wants to pursue its claim?
Take the matter to court.
That potentially transforms a Bollywood casting controversy into a genuine legal battle.
Ranveer Singh’s Father Has Entered the Dispute
Another interesting development involves Ranveer’s father and representative, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani.
He approached IMPPA and submitted a plea challenging Excel Entertainment’s claim.
IMPPA president Abhay Sinha has said the association’s legal team is examining the arguments and documents presented by the parties.
That means the controversy remains unresolved.
There is no final ruling establishing that Ranveer owes ₹45 crore.
The Controversy Started Much Earlier
The dispute didn’t suddenly appear in August.
Earlier this year, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees — FWICE — issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer following the Don 3 fallout.
That development was widely described as a “ban.”
But there is an important distinction.
FWICE itself described it as a non-cooperation directive, rather than a formal industry-wide legal ban.
Ranveer subsequently challenged the move.
The directive was eventually withdrawn in June following intervention involving industry bodies including IMPPA, the Producers Guild of India and CINTAA.
But withdrawing that directive did not solve the central financial dispute.
The ₹45-crore question remained.
And now that question has become the main battle.
How Did One of Bollywood’s Biggest Films Reach This Point?
That’s what makes the story fascinating.
Don 3 was announced with Ranveer Singh taking over the central role.
The expectations were enormous.
Amitabh Bachchan defined Don for an earlier generation.
Shah Rukh Khan reinvented the character.
Ranveer was supposed to take the franchise forward.
But the project encountered delays and uncertainty.
Then came Dhurandhar.
Ranveer’s career trajectory changed dramatically following the film’s success.
Reports subsequently emerged that the actor had left Don 3.
The reasons surrounding that decision have been contested in entertainment reporting, with various reports pointing to creative and production-related concerns.
What is clear is that the departure happened after substantial preparation had already taken place.
That’s where Excel’s financial claim enters the story.
Farhan Akhtar’s Comment Added Fuel to the Fire
Farhan Akhtar also attracted attention with a comment widely interpreted as a dig at Ranveer.
Discussing the situation, Farhan remarked that the project had been about a month away from filming, adding that this “seems to be a pattern nowadays.”
He didn’t need to say much more.
The remark immediately generated headlines.
Because this is no longer merely about an actor leaving a film.
It raises a much bigger Bollywood question:
When does an actor’s decision to leave become financially actionable?
Actors need creative freedom.
Producers also invest enormous sums before cameras start rolling.
If a star exits after millions have already been committed, who absorbs the loss?
That is what makes the Don 3 dispute potentially important beyond Ranveer Singh himself.
Meanwhile, Ranveer Has Already Moved On to Pralay
While the Don 3 battle continues, Ranveer isn’t sitting idle.
His next major project: Pralay.
The action thriller has already gone on floors in Mumbai.
Directed by Jai Mehta, the film is being positioned as a large-scale, end-of-the-world survival story.
Ranveer is not simply acting in it.
He is also involved as a producer through his banner.
And joining him is Kalyani Priyadarshan, who has already indicated publicly that she is deeply into the Mumbai shooting schedule.
That makes the contrast fascinating.
On one side:
A reported ₹45-crore battle over the movie Ranveer left.
On the other:
One of the biggest new films he has chosen to make.
Pralay Could Become Ranveer’s Next Big Transformation
Early descriptions suggest Pralay will operate in a post-apocalyptic environment with a major action component.
Mumbai is expected to play an important role in the film’s visual identity.
The production had previously been associated with an overseas schedule, but filming is now underway in Mumbai.
For Ranveer, the timing is important.
After his recent run of major action-oriented performances, audiences will be watching closely to see whether Pralay extends that momentum.
What Happens to Don 3 Now?
This remains one of the biggest unanswered questions.
The Don franchise is too valuable to disappear quietly.
But Ranveer’s exit creates a huge problem.
Who becomes Don?
Does the film retain its existing creative direction?
Does the production timeline change again?
Could the franchise be reworked?
Those questions remain separate from the ₹45-crore dispute.
And fans should be careful with casting rumours until Excel Entertainment makes an official announcement.
₹45 Crore Is Not Yet Ranveer’s “Fine”
This deserves repeating because social-media headlines can easily become misleading.
There is currently a major difference between:
Excel Entertainment reportedly seeking ₹45 crore
and
Ranveer Singh being ordered to pay ₹45 crore.
The first is what has been reported.
The second has not been established.
Ranveer’s side disputes the claim and has challenged IMPPA’s authority to resolve the matter.
The association is reviewing the positions of both parties.
If no settlement is achieved and the dispute reaches court, the legal process could determine what contractual obligations actually existed and whether damages are payable.
From Don to Pralay — Ranveer Singh Is Entering a Fascinating Career Phase
The timing couldn’t be more dramatic.
Ranveer Singh is coming from enormous career momentum.
He has a major new action film underway.
At the same time, one of Bollywood’s most valuable franchises is moving forward without him while a reported ₹45-crore dispute hangs over the separation.
That’s why this story is bigger than celebrity gossip.
It combines money, contracts, star power, producer risk, one of Bollywood’s most famous franchises — and potentially court.
The biggest question is no longer simply:
“Why did Ranveer Singh leave Don 3?”
It is:
Who should pay when a ₹100-crore-scale Bollywood production relationship collapses before the cameras even start rolling?
That answer could make the Don 3 controversy one of Bollywood’s most closely watched industry disputes of 2026.
