Bangladesh says India visit is not yet confirmed
Bangladesh has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India has not yet been finalized, despite Indian media reports suggesting a trip from August 23 to August 25.
Reuters reported that Dhaka is still awaiting developments connected to its request concerning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others.
Adding to the uncertainty, Rashtrapati Bhavan issued and subsequently withdrew a statement connected to the expected visit, according to Indian Express reporting.
Why the visit is important
India and Bangladesh share extensive economic, security, cultural and geographical ties.
Relations have faced increased diplomatic complexity since Hasina left Bangladesh in 2024 following large-scale protests.
Rahman’s government, which assumed power in February 2026, has indicated that it wants constructive relations with New Delhi while simultaneously pressing issues important to Dhaka.
Until official confirmation comes from the governments of India and Bangladesh, the reported August 23–25 schedule should be treated as provisional.
